Meet Dr. McGuire
Dickson McGuire, DDS, MSD
Board-Certified Diplomate of The American Board of Endodontics
Dr. McGuire is a Board-Certified Diplomate of The American Board of Endodontics. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in June of 1999. He was indoctrinated into the U.S. Navy Dental Corps from June-August 1999 in Newport, RI. From there he served and trained in advanced education in general dentistry residency program (AEGD) at the Naval Dental Center San Diego. He then served three years as a Navy Dentist with the 7th Marines in 29 Palms, California. He made application to endodontic programs around the country and was accepted into Indiana University's School of Dentistry Department of Endodontics's prestigious program. He was one of two residents from over a thousand applicants. At IU he received his American Dental Association (ADA) specialist's certificate in Endodontics and a Masters of Science in Dentistry (MSD). He obtained diplomate status with the American Board of Endodontics (ABE) in March of 2018. A status held by less than 20% of endodontists nationwide. Obtaining diplomate status by the American Board of Endodontics is a long process that includes a written exam (current/classic literature), a case portfolio with proper complexity, and an oral examination.
Dr. McGuire is the founder of McGuire Endodontics in Austin, Texas, and has been in private practice here since January 2006. He enjoys attending annual ABE board review and summer courses for active diplomates, TDO (The Digital Office) for endo in San Diego, and annual American Association of Endodontist (AAE) meetings. He's continually reading both classic and current endodontic literature to stay on his "A" game. At the office, he prides himself in his experienced/comforting team, building/space, modern equipment for proper patient access/care, comfort, diagnosis, endodontic treatment, and post-operative care. He's excited to offer gentlewave technology (GW) for all non-surgical root canal therapy. He doesn't skimp and use it just once in a while. He uses it in almost every case that it will work within. He doesn't let the cost of each handpiece and the additional chair time compromise your exceptional clinical endodontic outcome. Gentlewave is the most advanced endodontic irrigation system for maximum intracanal organic debris removal. It cleans the spaces that traditional endodontic therapy using needle irrigation or endovac can't reach. He, also, never reuses endodontic files or reamers and buys only the very best instruments. He's all about your clinical comfort and long-term endodontic outcome. He'll give plenty of nitrous, oral sedation, and local anesthesia as needed. He knows that most every patient is nervous to come see the endodontist and waives the fees for nitrous and oral sedation. All you'll need is a safe driver to take you home. He's well known as "the go-to" for the most difficult endo cases and circumstances. He enjoys a good endodontic challenge! In his spare time, he enjoys relaxing, spending time with his daughter (an aspiring endodontist, UT-Austin public healthy major, and starting UTSA School of Dentistry 2023), walking or running the trail at Town Lake, and spending time with his esteemed referring dentists. Patients usually find their way to his practice by self-referral or one of Austin's finest dental practices that he calls "his referrals." His latest continuing education experiences include the 9th annual ABE Scientific Board Review at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2019, the 10th annual ABE Scientific board review at the University of Maryland-Baltimore in 2020, AAE 2020 April virtual annual conference, the 11th annual ABE virtual Scientific board review in January 2021, and the 2022 AAE annual conference in Scottsdale, AZ, Endocon 2022 San Diego, and ABE Scientific board review UTHB 2023.
